Midland, MI - August 20, 2007
Super Bowl MVP and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will be the special guest Saturday, August 25, 2007, for the Midland Blue Planet Run, a 5k run /1 mile walk and afternoon of family activities in Downtown Midland. The event is being held to raise awareness and funds for the vital need for clean, accessible drinking water all over the world. It is in support of The Dow Chemical Company’s sponsorship of the global 2007 Blue Planet Run.
Activities begin Saturday, August 25 at 2 p.m. and include an afternoon of music, family games, ongoing entertainment and refreshments. The highlight of the event will be the arrival of the international Blue Planet Run runners in Midland for the official baton exchange at the Farmer’s Market at 4:30 p.m. The Midland Blue Planet Run/Walk will begin at 5 p.m. with Desmond Howard firing the starting gun. He will hold 30-minute autograph sessions at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. All events are wheelchair friendly and handicap accessible.

- Farmer’s Market Pavilion – water games and experiments, fly fishing demonstration, chair massages
- Kids’ Activity Tent -- games, arts and crafts, face painting, inflatables, fitness challenge
2-7 p.m. Stage Events
- 2:15 p.m. Indian dancers
- 2:35 p.m. African storyteller
- 3 p.m. African drummers
- 3 p.m. Desmond Howard autograph session
- 3:20 p.m. Chinese dragon performance
- 4 p.m. Official Program begins
- 4:10 p.m. Desmond Howard remarks
- 4:15 p.m. Jin Zidell, founder of Blue Planet Run Foundation remarks
- 4:20 p.m. Blue Planet Run runners arrive at the City Stage
- 4:30 p.m. Runner baton exchange
- 4:40 p.m. Saginaw High School Marching Band escorts runners/walkers to starting point
- 5 p.m. Desmond Howard fires the starting gun for the local run and Mary Chervenak begins the local walk
- 5 p.m. Activities resume, live music begins, Desmond Howard autograph session
Food and Beverages
- Chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta, fruit, ice cream and beverages
